Dans le vaste monde des logiciels de communication instantanée (IM pour faire plus court), le Mac est loin d’être mal loti. Même Microsoft a fait un effort récemment en sortant une version 5.0 de son Messenger, malheureusement sans audio ou vidéo… Pour ça, le roi reste iChat, malgré une interface sans tabs pas toujours pratique et une compatibilité toute relative avec le monde PC. Yahoo a également rénové son produit et gère la communication audio. Si vous êtes masos et que vous voulez payer pour un client IM, vous pouvez tenter Proteus. Mais franchement, ça serait stupide vu qu’il existe un produit supérieur en tout point et super gratuit : Adium X, qui écrase l’autre IM multiprotocol freeware, Fire. Qui a dit que le Mac manquait de softs ?

Enfin un article (NY Times, enregistrement gratos obligatoire) qui va un peu plus loin que les spéculations sur l’avenir du couple Apple / Intel. Morceaux choisis :

Indeed, Sony’s top executives had tried to persuade Mr. Jobs to adopt a chip that I.B.M. has been developing for the next-generation Sony PlayStation. »

« Several executives close to the last-minute dealings between Apple and I.B.M. said that Mr. Jobs waited until the last moment – 3 p.m. on Friday, June 4 – to inform Big Blue. Those executives said that I.B.M. had learned about Apple’s negotiations with Intel from news reports and that Apple had not returned phone calls in recent weeks. »

« Technical issues were secondary to the business issues, » said an executive close to the I.B.M. side of the negotiations. Because the business was not profitable, I.B.M. « decided not to continue to go ahead with the product road map. »

« As soon as I heard Steve say that the factor where Intel’s road map was superior was processing power per [watt] I knew right away that it was exactly what I have been reading and saying and so have many others, that this is the real key to the future of high performance computers, » Mr. Wozniak wrote.

Annoncer un changement de CPU (PowerPC -> Intel) le 06/06 c’est bien vu. Surtout quand on sait que le changement sera effectif dans un an. 666, le chiffre de la bête. Quel déconneur ce Steve. En attendant, je ne pige pas comment Apple compte vendre des Macs pendant les 2 ans qui viennent et POURQUOI Jobs a pris cette décision alors que l’architecture Power d’IBM semblait promise à un excellent avenir. Bah, nous ne sommes que des pions après tout… :-(

Comme prévu, Apple va bloquer Mac OS X sur ses Macs x86.
